The Riverhouse Barn Community Café is a not-for-profit enterprise powered by a passionate team of volunteers and staff who create delicious dishes using surplus food. We are committed to sustainability and continuously learning how to improve our efforts.
Why Does Food Waste Matter?
Food waste is a massive global issue! If it were a country, it would rank as the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. If it were a landmass, it would cover 28% of the world’s land—a space the size of China! (UN statistics). Additionally, the food sector accounts for 30% of the world’s total energy consumption.
By supporting our café, you’re helping to reduce the impact of food waste. We’re grateful to organizations like Surplus to Supper for their generous donations, allowing us to rescue perfectly good food from going to landfill.
More Than Just a Café
We work closely with local charities and community groups, including Elmbridge Community Link, the Counselling Partnership, Home Start, Cancer Research UK, Meet Up Mondays, Elmbridge Rentstart, Foodbank, and many others. Together, we’ve created a space where the focus is not just on the food but also on building a sense of community.
